I'm curious how many of you travel solo a lot just because you can't find people to travel with. I have been doing that frequently the last few years as it seems that I have never been able to find people who like to travel. Luckily I have found solo traveling to be a lot of fun as I get to do what I want to do when I want to do it. Anyone else in the same boat?

I travel solo mostly because what I'm interested in doing appeals to few others, it isn't because I can't find someone, I don't even try. I don't understand people that need to travel (or need to do anything else, like watching a movie) with someone else. It never made sense to me.

Another solo traveler here. I agree with timberline742. I have lots of friends who travel, but our styles and interests don't mesh. For instance, my BFF is more fancy hotel and nightclub oriented, where I'm more budget/hostel accommodations and focused on site seeing. Besides, I'd rather go at my own pace.

Very few people around here do much traveling. I don't mind solo travel though.

I'm traveling solo this fall because my two best friends didn't want to go. I figured the heck with it, I'm not bypassing a trip just because my friends don't want to go. And what is crazy is that I offered to pay for one of my friends plane ticket, he still said no! I'm not worried about going by myself but my mom is. She seems to think I'm going to get involved in drug trafficking, lol.

I travel solo because I choose to. I don't even look for traveling companions. Part of getting away for me is the solitude of experiencing something and just being in my own thoughts. An I don't need to worry about keeping someone else happy (what they want to see, what they want to eat, what schedule they want to keep, etc).

I haven't gone on any vacations or anything by myself, but I have traveled alone to meet people on the other end if that counts.

I learned to travel solo when I did a lot of business trips, so I'm more than happy to go solo. These days I tend to go to far-flung locations and my friends are happy to hear my stories buy they really aren't interested in flying half way around the world.

With the response I see from so many people when I even talk about traveling I am sometimes surprised there's much of an industry. People in my town assume that the only vacations I take are to visit family and I work with one guy who only goes to Seattle for vacations since that is where his wife's family is. It would be nice to find people to travel the way I like to but seeing as how I have not found that since I was in high school, I'm not holding my breath. Next summer I will be joining a tour group on a vacation hopefully. I'm hoping it will be people who are similar to me. Maybe that's how people find fellow travelers.
