Have you been on vacation and included horseback riding on the itinerary? I once went trotting down a mountainside on the Big Island in Hawaii and went past a waterfall on the way to the beach. It was absolutely unforgettable.

Where have your best horseback riding experiences been?

I stayed in Cabra Castle, near Kingscourt, County Caven Ireland in 2004 and had an outstanding ride through the Irish countryside.

Wales and England have very nice multi day horseback tours.

Since I stay at guest homes ($10/ night worldwide)...and usually farms... I get all the horse riding I want (having grown up on a farm and ranch). One Dairy Farm in Maine was winter boarding 30 horses from a riding stable. We (family of 4) stayed all week and toured the fall color forests in the region. Didn't cost a dime.

We stayed at a hotel on Antigua that kept horses for guests to use. I would have gone out every day if I could have gotten my spouse onboard with the idea. I love riding, and riding on the beach is just a special experience.

I lived on a cattle ranch in the Ecuadorean Andes and helped the local chagras heard cattle in from the mountains. I was the only tourist there. It was amazing.

I also just got back from a week trip riding in Ireland. Also amazing, but in very different ways. These were definitely not beginner trips though.
