I know this is a hypothetical question but if you could only choose between...

A first-class flight to the destination (then staying at a hostel)
and
A cattle-class flight to the destination (then staying at a six-star hotel)

Which would it be? How would you rationalize your decision? Let's assume that the flight is 15 hours long and the stay is for a period of 3 nights, and that you've never experienced both a first-class flight or a luxurious hotel stay.

This is a tough choice for me but I'm going for the six-star hotel because I think I should be able to grit my teeth for the duration of a leg-cramping 15-hour flight in cattle class. At least after that, I get to be smothered in luxury for 3 nights.

Who's gonna sit 15 hours (twice) in a plane for a 3 day holiday
Give me the Luxury Flight and the Hostel, spend most of my time abroad outside my hotel/appartment anyway.
If the holiday was a week longer i would have went with the Luxury Hotel and the Cheap Flight.

Luxury hotel AINEC.

The different between hostel and 6 star hotel is way greater than the diference between 1st class and coach. And it's for a lot longer time frame.

If I were young and single (and paying for it), I'd go coach/hostel. The hostel does have some advantages over the 6 star hotel for certain demographics.

Neither. I'd fly business or premium economy and stay in a mid-level hotel.

A lot of conditions - "3 days stay", "15 hour flight", "never experienced both".

The only thing I can say is for first class flights, it's nice but...you are still a prisoner in a metal tube for 15 hours, 10 hours of which one usually spends sleeping or just with their eyes closed trying to forget they are stuck on a plane. It's not that nice.
Then again for a hotel - sometimes all I need is a hot shower and a relatively comfortable bed, and I can get that at a mid-range hotel. The luxurious hotel room comes with too many extra's you have to shell out for.

I would stay home. Unless the company is paying AND I get business class.

Hotel... I can deal with Coach, 1st class is nice, but given the choice, Hotel/Hostel 1stClass/Coach... I'd pick the Hotel for the upgrade.

I would never spend 15 hours travelling for only a 3 day stay. But regardless of the conditions, I would always chose a luxury hotel over a luxury flight. A comfortable bed in a clean and private hotel room, in a good location trumps all in my opinion. Even 15 hours is only one sleep session and I'd rather be comfortable for 2 nights than one.

On a normal airline, I might agree. Normally, 1st class just means a little bit more room in a slightly bigger and slightly more comfy chair. But I've seen luxury flights where your chair turns into an entire bed and there are dividers between you and anyone else. Yes, you may spend most of the time asleep but if the comfort level allows you to get a good sleep over a broken one or none at all, it might be worth it. Even so, if the length of the flight is going to be shorter than the length of your stay, I would still go with a luxury hotel.
