Just an FYI for those of you accustomed to using your Bank of America ATM card overseas.

I've used mine without ATM fees for the past few years when I'm in Europe (mostly France, Germany and Italy). The deal was as long as you used their PARTNER banks, there was NO FEE. Partner banks include BNP Paribas, Deutchse Bank, and BNL d'Italia. Well, I logged into my account while in Europe and found that using my BOA ATM at these partner banks is no longer free. In fact, they are now charging a whopping 3% to access MY MONEY in Europe. I always check in with the bank before leaving and was never told this, so they reversed the fees and I switched to my credit union ATM card, which gives me access to MY money without a fee

Just a heads-up for those of you with a BOA account...BEWARE! Moving forward, I'll only use BOA in the US.

They have always had that fee--what you save is the $5 fee for using the non-BOA ATM.

Not true, at least not with my BOA account. I never saw/paid a 3% fee until this trip (July '14). Sure, using a "partner" bank avoids the $5 ATM fee, but I never, ever saw a 3% fee even when using any overseas ATM until this summer. The BOA customer service rep I spoke with told me this was new within the past year or less.

Hmmm, I thought I paid it in Rome a couple years ago. Didn't take anything out of an ATM in a foreign country since. Maybe I'm not remembering correctly.

I wouldn't use BOA for anything.
They consistently rank among the lowest in terms of customer service and satisfaction.
They deserve it. We hated them. In our case, we had a bunch of money in the bank and they would only allow us to withdraw $25G a month. Our money, I'm saying; not a new deposit.
I hate them.
If I could think of a way to put them out of business I would.

I agree they suck. My wife had an account there first, and somehow it ended up as our primary account. We have other accounts with better banks, and we only keep the BOA account due to some auto-payments setup there, and the fact they have ATM's all over the country.

Mostly, the big American Bank sort of suck about overseas ATM fees. In my experience, it's not hard to run up a $20 fee, just using an ATM overseas.

I've been with Bank of America for 21 years, and have never used their ATM card, wouldn't even know how to use it! Don't even know my PIN #!

All the trips I've taken to Central/South America never used an ATM on any of those trips, just hid my money in my socks and in a money belt!
