Why in Gods green earth would anyone want to sleep in their car even if it was safe, which is rarely is? I am assuming you are very young and have no fear of what could happen and very little money, but that still isn't a reason to try something like that. Yes, police dept parking lot would be fine, except I doubt they would let you do that. Most camp grounds are not free and rest stops have a history of being anything but safe for overnight parking.

There are a few airports with long term parking that are not more than $10 a day, but they are few and far between and they are policed so if you are caught parking there just to sleep you might be in a little trouble. This is not the days of safe everything, like 50 years ago, it is today and not something people should be doing.

Many rest areas aren't safe for daylight parking. I agree, I can't imagine any police department allowing someone to sleep in their parking lot.

A truck stop/travel plaza would be just fine as well as a Walmart parking lot as long as it is a 24 hour Walmart and rest areas are fine as long as you park in one of the better lit areas and lock your vehicle.

In regards to stopping in the middle of a 9 or 10 hour drive, I would have to because I am not physically able to drive that many hours straight most days.
Some of us do actually have physical limitations that are not as obvious as those who are on crutches, carry oxygen or are in a wheel chair.

PS--Many hospital parking lots are pay lots or have security that aren't going to let you sleep there. I live in a suburb, and while parking is free, the security people are definitely going to be on top of someone sleeping in the car and move them along.

WalMart is a better option, although some of those are in bad areas.
Because Ill be making stops along the way and going to check out different places...itll be a 3 night trip. I wouldnt want to do a walmart cus it seems like a easy place for a carjacking if the wrong person saw you.

True...what if you park in the airport but sleep in the airport instead of your car? Do you think that would be doable without getting in trouble

Youre right im young and hate the idea of wasting money and sometimes hotels seem like a waste unless youre with at least one other person that could pay half. I just feel like a sucker anytime im not getting a deal. I feel like im already overpaying greatly on gas so I need to find a way to even it out. Its very cheap I know but thats just how I do it. And I do have fears thats why im asking on here lol. Im also asking because I have a lack of education since ive never slept in my car before except for a 10 minute power nap in a hotel parking lot in pa in the daytime...I doubt Id do a rest stop, truck stop, or walmart parking lot though.

Are walmart and rest areas really that safe? I know theyve got security cameras all over and have people working inside but thats never stopped crazy criminals from trying stuff in those areas before has it? im just asking cus a lot of people say walmart is a decent place to do it.

And you think random rest areas and truck stops will be safer?
