The outbreak of Ebola in Western Africa has struck fear into visitors to the region. The disease has a fatality rate of up to 90 percent, so travelers need to understand just how the virus spreads.

@John1960 yeah, I agree it's very unsafe to travel there now. Actually, it was already pretty unsafe to travel to that region due to its political volatility (I've been to Liberia, as well as Guinea and Guinea-Bissau which are relatively close), but the Ebola just made it a lot worse.
Several airlines, even low-key African airlines, have suspended services to the region, so don't count on getting in right now. In fact, I would avoid all travel to most of Africa right now. Who knows which country Ebola will (or already has) claim as its next victim?

For the time being I would avoid West Africa and keep a close eye on the rest of the continent. Better safe than sorry.
