But if an airline meets the criteria for belonging to one of the big alliances and the price is right then I'd probably give them a try. I'm of two minds about Aeroflot though- their long haul international service is supposed to be much improved, but I'm not fond of steering any money toward Russia right now for political reasons.
I could be wrong, but I thought Ethiopian was one of the ones the FAA banned for safety violations a few years back. Right now I wouldn't fly on them due to the Ebola situation. The ONLY way they are going to get that under control is to close the borders to the affected countries and let it die itself out. Drop ship humanitarian aid from helicopters, but don't land anything anywhere until it's been eradicated.

EgyptAir is fine. It's a member of the Star Alliance.

One I would like to see added to this list is AMERICAN AIRLINES aka Air Satan.

My local airport used to be largely served by Atlantic Southeast, which I'd call Satan's Commuter Airline as determined by a Major US Customer Service Survey. I'm glad that Delta went to mainline service here, and ASA rebranded itself as Express Jet and is now the scourge of United passengers instead.

I don't not trust any of them. I'd love to take a flight on Air Koryo and experience the 1 star rating firsthand.

The fact that there isn't enough money for me in this world is precisely why I would be open to flying Ryan Air.

Honestly, only commercial airline I am nervous about flying is Air Canada. Not because I fear for my safety, but because it seems like every time I check their departures at YYZ, 40% of their flights are delayed or cancelled. Makes me nervous I won't get to where I need to go sometimes.

I wouldn't trust Malaysian Airlines after these 2 incidents and I wouldn't trust Iran Air as I believe they have aging aircraft which can't be maintained properly due to sanctions of the West.

I also wouldn't trust airliners that fly Russian made aircraft as I don't think they are that safe or maintained properly.

How could you not have put Asiana Airlines on this list? They had pilots fly trans-Pacific routes who never flew that type of plane before!! The pilot and co-pilot who crash landed that plane at SFO had never landed that type of jet before, not only at SFO, but anywhere!!

I flew Air France a couple of times from Philadelphia to Paris and both the food and service were excellent. They no longer fly that route. There seems to be a lot of hatred in this thread for American Airlines. When I was a child they were a fantastic airline. Times sure have changed.

None of these. Whatever airline I need, I'll fly. Driving is a lot more dangerous, and from the stunts I've seen drivers pull here in Houston, I'm surprised half of our residents are still alive
