He will use the same charger and just need an adapter, not converter for his phone. What he needs for his laptop depends on the brand.

An adapter kit that accommodates most every outlet type in the world id readily available anywhere that sells luggage, including Target, etc.

Agree, just need an adapter...or maybe not even that. If he is going for business he may likely be staying at a western hotel that has American style plugs. An Iphone can be charged over a PC's USB port right?

I just got back from the UAE and Oman and we stayed in fancy hotels in Dubai, none of which had US style plugs. We still needed adapters but what worked the best for us was to buy this multi-outlet converter with USB plugs: http://www.amazon.com/Portable-unive...rtable+charger. I then simply used an adapter for the UAE in the wall outlet, and plugged everything I needed to charge (cameras, phones, iPad) and hair tools into this multi-outlet.

These days most electronic devices can be used anywhere in the world with just a local adapter plug.

Abu Dhabi voltage is 230volts and uses 3-pin plugs just like the UK. You friend should be able to buy chargers for his IPhone 4 and computer in any computer/phone store in Abu Dhabi.
