Rome.. because probably a cliche answer I'm intrigued by the Renaissance movement and the history both socially and politically of Europe, and Italy is the closet one on the list.

I'd probably not get bored of the food there. And, the Vatican, because I was raised Catholic, and would like to visit the Cathedrals just to feel a bit more immersed in the culture and history..

The art, food, people would probably amaze me, especially the old buildings. History is magic.

Rome for me.
I live only 40 miles west of NYC so spend lots of time there.
Tokyo, Sydney, Cape Town, the distance is just too long from the east coast for a 7 day trip.

Rio, maybe if they ever get the crime under control

Out of that list I would choose either Rio or Tokyo as I haven't been to Brazil or Japan.

Rome just because i've already been to New York and Tokyo.
Rio, Sydney and Kaapstad are to far away from me for just a 1-week holiday imo.

While I'd love to go to Italy since you put Rio on the list I choose that. I've been wanting to go to Rio for forever, just something about it. Maybe it's the beautiful people, lol. No interest in Tokyo whatsoever or really Cape Town.

My answer would just be sure, you pick, I'm game for any of those. I've spent time in NYC, Rome and Sydney, and could easily find a week's worth of stuff to do. I've never been to Rio, Tokyo, or Cape Town, so sure, why not. That said, I'm spending a month in Paris, and still finding it's not enough time.

I chose Rome. I've never been to Italy (my husband refuses to go). My hope is that when my daughter is a bit older I can talk her into going with me.

I'd choose Rome.

I have no interest in Rio de Janeiro. Tokyo, Sydney, & Cape Town are too far away - I'd require a longer stay if I'm traveling that far of a distance. New York is a relatively short drive from here, and we visit frequently for long weekends.
