I am flying out to Austin on Thursday and I have a gift bag with a few presents in there. Would this be considered a "carry on" along with my other carry on? I will be flying Southwest. I have a carry on I will be taking along with this gift. Just want to make sure its ok

You can have a carry on and a personal bag, like a purse, canvas bag, etc. Unless it's a really huge gift bag, I would think it would be the equivalent of a personal bag.

Agree, unless it's huge, it will be fine. Think along the lines of a Bloomingdales "Medium Brown Bag" and smaller.

Criteria for 'personal item' does have some dimensions in the fine print of your ticket, but essentially comes down to 'does it fit under the seat in front of you?'. If it looks like it does, no big deal, though would put a nice decorative gift bag inside another bag (think grocery store canvas bag) to not get it dirty on the floor.

Agree with the above; however, if you wrap the gifts and TSA wants to, they can make you unwrap them. It's always recommended that you bring gifts unwrapped.

OP specified they would be in a gift bag, not wrapped. It appears they are already aware of this.

yes it is a dumb question. Yes you can carry gifts but be sure that they are visible what it is. That happened to me.

It's not a dumb question, just kind of worded oddly. The question is, I have a second carry on, it's a smaller paper bag, will that be OK? The answer is yes.

Like another poster said, just make sure the gifts are not wrapped inside the gift bag (DD does this all the time). They will unwrap them.

There's a box next to the boarding gate. If your bag fits inside that box, it's ok for carry on. Otherwise not. Southwest airlines website also have a diagram of the acceptable dimensions and other restrictions.
