I'm looking to take a trip from the USA, end of November for about 5-7 days. I went to Amsterdam in May and Last year took a 7day cruise in parts of France and Italy. I would like to take a smaller budget trip about $1,500us. I am looking for some suggestions. Going to Australia next year Bigger Budget.
here are some requirements
8+ Hours of sunlight
Good public transportation
easy to find english speaking people (I'm learning Spanish now)
I would like my own room. not a shared room.
*****Temperature no lower than about 52°F 11°C.
Barcelona, Amsterdam, Budapest, Turkey, Croatia, Dubai, Czech Republic and Bali in Indonesia<( if you want to spend some time on the beach and do water sport activities) are all good candadites IMO
Budget and weather requirements knock out most of Europe, except the extreme south. Out to the pacific likewise the flight will take most of your budget (Bali? You don't want to spend a vacation with a bunch of drunken sunburned Aussies trust me).
Howabout Central America? Costa Rica?
The requirement for English speaking kills off a lot of the cheapest options. Additionally "the end of November" puts you into the Thanksgiving holidays with airfares at a premium. Would you be willing to go the first week of December instead?
Central America or the Caribbean makes the most sense from a cost perspective. The only really cheap European airfares I've been seeing lately tend to go into Scandinavia. Belize is English-speaking, Panama probably still very much so, and Costa Rica gets enough American and Canadian tourism that you can muddle through on gracias and por favor.
If you can drive, I'd skip the mass transit requirement and go for a hotel/air/microcar package deal on Costa Rica's west coast. If not, maybe exploring Panama City, Panama.
My friends went to the Dominican Republic a few years ago. They said it wasn't too expensive & they had no problem communicating with anyone, they too do not speak spanish. They had a great time.
I've frequently flown internationally over Thanksgiving (sometimes leaving the night before) and have not found fares to be any higher than normal. I suppose it depends if your flight requires a domestic connection though--mine never do.
