So, after a little prodding I convinced my husband it was time to take a little vacation. So we are Punta Cana bound in the next couple of months. Any recommendations of trips/tours that we should take? Also, while we are staying at an all-inclusive, what is typical for tipping? Trying to figure out as much as I can before I go!

I vacationed there the year before last and took a wonderful catamaran trip that featured an afternoon of snorkeling and lunch. I don't remember the name of the outfitters but there was no shortage of businesses offering the same.

I will add that you should be certain to take Pepto or whatever is your choice for GI distress. We were a party of 6, all travel savvy so we knew to be careful of the water but each of us got sick and it was intense. Avoid anything with ice, in kept in ice or fresh vegetables and fruits unless you rinse with fresh water.

Have a safe and fun trip!

Did an awesome catamaran snorkelling excursion, only 8 people on-board. Check out Mike's Marina, he has a FB page and a website. They are wonderful!

It's more relaxing and not a party boat where they take you out all day, but you only snorkel for 45 minutes and the rest is drinking. I get all the drinks I need with my all-inclusive resort pricing so I have no desire to spend extra on top for alcohol I'd get for free on-shore.

I've also done the Outback Jungle Safari twice and enjoyed it each time. Nice to see some of the real Dominican, not just the pretty resorts on the beach.

Thank you both! I haven't been out of the Country since 1988 (yikes!) so trying to get everything lined up in advance. Several folks have now mentioned the GI issues, so a little aprehensive and hoping all goes well in that area - celebrating a 20-year milestone, so the trip won't be very romantic if we are both fighting that, LOL!!

My husband loves to fish, so hoping to line up a good charter for him.

Liberty, we are also staying at an all-inclusive. What is the norm on tipping?

Tipping is typical there. A buck or two (at least) for just about everything because that's where they make their money which they need to get by in more impoverished areas where tourism is probably their top (if not their only) industry.

A really useful website is: www.debbiesdominicantravel.com You will be overwhelmed with info, so I warn you now!

I haven't been to Punta Cana in a few years. When I originally went, I followed the advice on that site and brought gifts for the maid. After talking to people at the resort, they have the ability to get the products I'd lugged down there, jut not always the money to do it, so I gave up on trinkets and tipped the maid about $5 per day. Technically tipping is all-inclusive, but it is a third world country and I figure a few extra dollars to the people who made my stay so wonderful (waiters, heck, even the people who keep the grounds immaculate) was the right thing to do.

So I just ordered some Dominican pesos to have in advance of arriving. Did you tip with US dollars or pesos?
