I am curious where the regulars on this forum are from. The reason I ask is I am curious if my theory on people in rural areas or in certain states not traveling much is accurate. I live in Wyoming and while people do travel a bit, so many can't seem to fathom doing it for any reason other than seeing family. I'm from Montana originally and the state is romanticized by so many of the residents and a lot don't seem to travel due to this reason. I also have relatives and friends in Iowa whose idea of traveling is the state fair and Minneapolis if they feel exceptionally daring. I'm curious where other travelers here are from and if they've noticed the same things where they live.

I know that not everyone in the states I've mentioned is like this and this is out of curiosity so please don't get offended.

I've lived in Wisconsin my whole life. The only reason I don't travel extensively is because of funds. Otherwise, I would never be here.

NYC, and I love to travel. I'm originally from Connecticut. I lived in Russia a few years back, for about four months. Flash in the pan really, but the best months of my life.

As a child I grew up and I lived in a few different countries (and different cities within some of those countries). So it is complicated to state where I am from originally from. So I just say I am cosmopolitan as even as an adult I have traveled as well as lived in a few different countries.

Grew up in Oakland, CA. Love to travel.

So far, it does seem like most people who have responded are from city areas, or at least areas not very far from a city. It'll be interesting to see if that remains true when more people have responded.

I am currently in Phoenix, but grew up in Iowa. When I was growing up, my family took epic road trips, such as a 2 week trip that we drove from Iowa to California, stopping to see the painted desert and Grand Canyon along the way. We did Disneyland and Universal Studios, the walk of fame, etc. Other trips around America were equally as great, always by car, always stopping to see things along the way. My dad would always say "We are going to be close to XYZ, so we might as well stop and see it". We once did a long weekend from Iowa to Erie PA for a graduation, then swung back home thru Canada crossing at Niagara Falls and re-entering the US at Detroit because we were so close we "might as well" see Canada.

Then I married someone who refused to fly, so all we did was go on long weekends to close-by cities. It wasn't until I was free of him in 2011 that I flew for the first time; and have done so many times since. I am looking forward to my first international flight later this month!

So, I do love to travel. I was just not doing it for so many years because of my spouse. But travel and exploring are in my blood even though I grew up in a fairly small town.
