Now that Ebola is spreading are you reluctant to make future travel plans? I was just thinking a possible trip to Europe this summer now I'm concerned. Not just Europe, but almost anywhere. What does everyone think?
I'm not gonna let it stop me unless it becomes an actually serious problem outside of West Africa. I can already see just this level of panic affecting tourism around the world now because people probably think they'll get it in an airport. People are quick to panic and one of my friends is all nervous about going to the Caribbean now because of ebola. Makes no sense, and you'd be safer there in all likelihood.
I wouldn't put off your trip until we actually know how this develops in the coming months.
By the summer of 2015 we should have a better idea of how the Ebola situation is going. I worry about huge pilgramage events (the hajj was earlier this month and Christian holidays and lunar new year events will bring thousands of people together). I would be cautious about travel but stay informed and make a decision later. Unfortunately, I suspect the travel industry will take a big hit over this.
There are areas I would not travel in right now, but there regions I probably would never want to visit or be close to, so I don't think it would bother me. However, for any of you who happen to have stock in any travel industry, from airlines, to reservation companies to hotel chains and cruise ships, you know Ebola has killed the industry in the past few weeks. yes, the market is down overall, but not like the travel industry. I have a friend with thousands of $$s in Cathy/Pacific, don't ask her about stock, our daughter has lost literally thousands and thousands and she has money in a reservations company. We have been hit hard, I guess the good news for us: we don't have a lot of money in any stock, but I do have some in a couple of travel related industries.
I guess the answer seems to be: many people are sitting back and not about to even board an airplane if they do not have to right now. The gal I mentioned with all the C/Pacific stock is one of them.
I wouldn't travel to the areas in West Africa where Ebola is a serious problem. As for the rest world, it is really a wait and see situation and at the moment, I don't see a problem with traveling to other places (but that could change in near/distant future).
I'm going to visit my dad and stepmom in November; they live in Florida and both ways I have a layover in Dallas Ft. Worth. I'm not that worried; I figure by then the CDC, hospitals, etc. will have gotten it together and figured out what they're supposed to be doing, thereby drastically minimizing any real threat.

I agree. I don't see any use in panicking and refusing to travel anywhere. Use common sense and be flexible if the situation changes. I fly often and don't plan on changing anything as of right now. It should be noted that my travels never bring me through Africa, let alone the western region where the Ebola outbreak is occurring. I certainly wouldn't hop a flight to Liberia anytime soon with things the way they are right now.

I just had a travel to England and Qatar for business a week ago. I was concerned but it did not deter me to go. Although while I was in Heathrow, I could not help to think where about that African woman who collapsed 3 months ago; when the Ebola panic started.
In the bathroom in the plane I also could not help and felt a little bit more icked. But I brought my own disinfectant and wipes.
