So I'm flying to somewhere in the Middle East soon. I have a transit flight in Frankfurt. Layover time is 3 hours ( not enough time to leave the airport ). What can I do if I actually wanna leave the airport. Like I wanna postpone my transit flight to the next day while I'm in Germany. Would that be possible? And how much would it cost?

You would have to work that out before you even fly to Frankfurt. If you purposely miss any leg, the airlines will automatically cancel your ticket. As for how much it would cost to change your ticket, that depends on the airline you're flying and the class and specific rules of the ticket.

You're going to have to pay the change fee + the difference in price between the two flights (the flight your originally booked on and the flight you'll actually be flying on).

Change fees can range from $75 for a domestic flight to $450 and up for some international flights.

No one here can speculate on what the difference in fare will be, but it won't be cheap.

So in short, get ready to pay a lot for that extra day.

Basically you would need to buy a new ticket.

If you want to spend a couple of days in Frankfurt, you should buy a multi--destination ticket instead of a return ticket with a connection

yeah, talk to your airline. call at night when they're generally nicer to you. what they can do for you all depends on your overall trip (if you're flying from the US you might have better options than from europe) and if there are multiple flights from Frankfurt to your final destination that would help to (possibility of a long layover vs stopover)

What is a transit flight?

Better question: what is a non-transit flight?
