A female friend and I have a 6-day trip to the Dominican Republic booked for January. We will be at one of the AlSol resorts outside Punta Cana (technically Cap Cana is the area, I believe). While the trip is mostly for sun, water, and drinks, we also want to get a feel for the country so we would like to venture outside the resort to explore some.
My questions are:
1) Any recommendations for a good scuba dive shop in the Cap Cana area?
2) Have any of you rented a car in the DR and if so, would you feel safe driving around just being 2 females? (We are both incredibly aware and confident, so we aren't timid or inexperienced travelers by any means) I've driven in Grand Cayman and the Bahamas, but I don't know if DR is more like them or more like Mexico as far as people out and about in an obvious rental car.
3) Any not-to-be-missed things in Punta Cana?
