What's the longest trip you ever made, just to go shopping, with no other important objective?

Living in Northern Michigan, we used to make an annual 400 mile round-trip to Sault Ste. Marie, Canada, to fill the car with cheap Canadian fall produce, and various other exotic foods imported from countries that American grocers (and shoppers) are afraid of.

I've also lived in several small towns, where the supermarket shopping had to be done 50 miles away. And maybe once or twice a year to a big city 100 miles away.

In Europe, it is common to take "shopping weekends" to another country, and I've known Americans that would fly to New York or even London for a shopping trip. But I never did it myself.

For shopping alone, we often cross the border and drive between 2-5 hours depending on destination, i.e. Grove City Outlets in PA with no sales tax. Love it!

We will go 2-3 times a year to do bit of shopping in Portland, or for some items in Vancouver, BC. Both are about a 3 hour drive, 185 & 150 miles.

When still married to my ex, we'd often drive to Denver (700 miles roundtrip) just for shopping. If not there, then to Billings (500 miles RT) or Rapid City (300 miles RT).

My new bride (of 15 years) hates to shop. I can't drag her a mile to the shopping center when her sox and jeans have holes in them. God, how I love that woman!

The primary goal is shopping?

About 6 miles. Maybe 8.

For the sole purpose of shopping around 35km (approx. 20 miles). When I'm in Singapore or similar cities I'll stock up on certain things and shop at stores we don't have here but have never travelled long distance for the primary purpose of shopping.

Years ago, Southwest Airlines was offering flights from phoenix to LAX for $25 round trip, including taxes. I grabbed a ticket and spent the day shopping in the LA garment district. In those days, I was a size 4-6, so there was plenty of very cheap, high end designer stuff to bring home that night.

Many times I've driven hours on beer and/or record buying trips... so a couple hundred miles.

Sometimes I fart while I shop. I try to do it discreetly. Silent but deadly. Then I quickly walk away from the area. I think it's because I chew gum a lot. Eh, whatever. Doesn't bother ME!

As for distance to shop? The closest mall is about 5 miles away. The grocery store I frequent is 2 miles away. Sam's Club is about 10 miles away.
