26 so far - I don't count airport layovers as "visiting a state" - but if I did I can include:
Missouri
Michigan
Illinois
Utah
Should add Louisiana and Mississippi next year on a Gulf Coast trip - slowly but surely working towards 50!
40! 27 of which I saw on a nice cross-country trip this summer.
I have yet to visit AK, HI, WA, OR, ID, ND, MT, MN, VT or OK.
NH and IA only count "technically" as I went through a sliver of them on the way from one state to the next.
I guess there's a pattern with most of the remaining states. I don't have a particularly strong desire to visit the Upper Plains states. Strangely, Hawai'i doesn't even interest me that much. I would like to see the Pacific Northwest one day though. (WA. OR)
I am an international student at University of North Carolina at Charlotte
(I have been in the States since August 2008)
and so far, I have visited 16 states:
1-NC 2-SC 3-GA 4-FL 5-VA 6-WV 7-DC 8-MD 9-DE 10-NJ 11-NY 12-PA 13-OH 14-MI 15-MA 16-TN
and I also visited a US territory in March 09 (Puerto Rico)
and hopefully by the end of this Christmas break I will visit 3 or 4 new states
All of the States, plus Washington DC, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Guam.
And all of the Canadian Provinces, the Yukom Territory and Labrador, as well as the French Territories of St.Pierre et Miquelon.
I have bicycled through Alaska, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, N. Dakota, S. Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma, as well as all of the Canadian Provinces and the Yukon Territory

How did you miss Northwest Territories and Nunavut? Nunavut is possible by a good paved road in Quebec that goes up to several James Bay communities. Get someone there to take you a couple miles offshore to a hunting island, and when you step off the boat, you will technically be in Nunavut, which includes all islands in Hudson and James Bay. Otherwise, you have to fly to Nunavut.
