really thinking of Mexico but may consider flying instead if we must go to mexico.

Please where can i get cheap flights?
and where is the best place to go with children?

I'm assuming you all have your passports. Driving into Nuevo Laredo, not sure of the point. There are plenty of places to visit in Mexico. Since you are talking about a family vacation, check out Funjet for some packages. If this is for spring break I would avoid Cancun at that time.

If I had to choose just ONE city in Mexico to avoid, Nuevo Laredo would be the one. On my last visit there for work, five police officers were gunned down two blocks away from the hotel we were at.

I was equally unimpressed with Laredo, TX.

If I were to cross the Mexican border for sightseeing, I would prefer to do it at either Reynosa (near McAllen, TX) or Cuidad Juarez (near El Paso, TX).

If you're going to Mexico, fly to a resort area. Do NOT drive across the border and do not plan to spend any time in border towns. Yeah...people say it's not as bad as they make it out to be. It's not bad IF you aren't caught in the middle of it. It's not bad IF the cartels leave you alone. It's not bad IF the stray bullets from the automatic assault rifles just happen not to hit you. I have first-hand accounts of what is happening on the border and it is NOT safe, especially not with kids. So change your destination, book a flight, and enjoy yourself instead of worrying about safety. (And yeah, I live in Texas and I've driven across the border before....but not now.)

Same, I would avoid Mexico at all cost. Why not travel to Puerto Rico? They have less violence than in Mexico. Plus you won't have to spend the extra money on a passport.

I'm not sure how "fun" it would be to drive with your kids across the border and then back again, those Mexican border towns often do not look much different then their American counterparts and they have pretty high crime rates.

I know a lot of people have mentioned flying to a resort area, which is something you probably should consider. However, bear in mind, that these areas are dominated by all-inclusives and that there is very little authenticity left.

Someone mentioned Merida, if you want an authentic experience, consider it.

wow....thank you so much!
I appreciate...so much

What do you think of Monterrey in Mexico?
Is it safe, assuming we fly there?

also what can children do there?
