I will be in Sarasota/Venice, FL area in couple of weeks and likely will need to drive myself to the Tampa airport in order to book the best/cheapest return flight--
the sites I have checked show expensive (over $70) for a one way/one day rental---
Is there any rental company that doesn't charge surcharge for a one-way/dropoff rental?
I am willing to pickup at SRQ which is somewhat of a drive --
I don't really need a car until I get ready to go back though since will have use of my daughter's car while I am there...
There is a shuttle service but depending on the time you need to leave their fees can be higher than $70--expensive for an 80 min trip...

Most all car rental companies have a surcharge for not returning to the location it was rented.Maybe you could use a AAA discount to save a few dollars.

Yeah, I personally haven't found a way around the one-way car rental surcharge, which sucks as it can be very pricey. I had to pay $75 for a one-way rental via Enterprise from Traverse City to Petoskey, about a 90 minute drive. What was even more infuriating is that plenty of people make regular one-way trips between both locations (a rep told me as such), which made the fee totally unnecessary in my view.

If you are a frequent renter of a specific company, most will work around the one-way charge. This is one of the benefits of being loyal to a company; they take care of you.

Enterprise is ALWAYS the worst agency on one-way fees. They tried to charge me a $100 fee for picking up a car at a neighborhood location in the Chicago suburbs and dropping off at O'Hare airport. At that time, neither the Avis or Hertz neighborhood offices charged for drop offs.

I would look elsewhere BUT in Petoskey, there may nor be another option.

That's what I'm finding, too. It's really a shame, too, as I generally have very positive experiences with Enterprises and generally can't beat their prices where I am (I especially love the $9.99 per day weekend deal where it is available and I need a vehicle for not-so-extensive travel during a particular weekend . . . there's a 100 mile per day limit on that deal). And, sadly, Enterprise is the only game in Petoskey, so I'm sure they can get away with even more there than usual.
