Looking at a trip to Portugal and Spain in January. Any helpful information would be appreciated, especially regarding the winter months..(weather,food, lodging, culture, etc)
I would really like to fly into Lisbon and fly out of Barcelona, (or vis versa) and travel along the coast, going to Alagarve, Seville, Tangiers, Granada, Almeria, Valencia, and Barcelona.
Is this possible to do in 3 weeks? 2 weeks? How much of this route could be done by train vs bus? Is it advisable to do two one-way tickets from Spain and Portugal with the route along the coast? If I live on the west coast of the US, and I want to do the two one-way tickets, should I be flying out of NYC or Boston?
Why would you two two O/W tickets? In my experience an open jaw is usually cheaper. Fly out of whichever gateway city offers the better fare and schedule.
You realize Tangier is in a different country and continent, right? You can take a ferry from Tarfia, but you can't take a train or bus.
You could do this trip entirely on ground transportation, although you would probably be doing a lot of backtracking and be spending a lot of time on trains and buses.

Also why January?
Yes I have scratched off Tangier.
January because Im using airline miles, and also to escape the winter weather I live. How much ground could be covered in 2 weeks from flying in and out of Lisbon? What are some possible routes?
Now I am thinking just Lisbon, then go further north into Coimbra and Braga, then visiting Madrid and Toledo and down to Seville and Alagarve, making sort of a circle.
