Raomin is right, this can happen. Ive always planned on an extra day just in case, because of this. I will admit though, both times they gave me early departures, but unfortunately, one of the returns left me with a 6 hour layover. My word search book kept me occupied when I wasnt sitting at the food court or grabbing a quick catnap on a bench.

Ideally, they should have the ability for a customer to put in a travel window, with both an earliest leave time and a latest arrival time. Until they do that, I won't book with them again.

Yes. And this is why I was leery the time I used it, but a family member had died and I had to get out there pronto ("bereavement" airfares have never seemed that good of a deal to me.) Everything did turn out okay with my flight.
And Priceline still does offer the Name Your Own Price feature.
But if you don't use the Name Your Own Price option, Priceline does disclose all flight details. It's just that they name the price.
Roaminred, the airfare portal Hotwire (owned by Expedia) used to have a name your price function that did give you a little more control over flight details, and I knew people who used it successfully. But I don't think Hotwire offers bidding for travel anymore.

That's the one we've always used and so far we've had good luck with them.
