Treat the poor people like crap, just don't let me see it, but don't hurt the animals...

[quote=aneev;39861796][quote] I am turned off by poverty and can't stand poor treatment of animals, so I similarly have qualms about visiting some of the poorer countries in Latin America.

What do mean by poor treatment of animals? Do you mean pets or farm animals?

I mean that I have heard many, many stories of animal abuse and/or neglect in those countries. I'm talking about packs of starving dogs who get kicked by locals when they approach for food, and stray cats that are similarly treated with scorn. I'm also talking about donkeys and mules having open and infected wounds on them from being beaten and abused. I hate seeing stuff like that, and with rare exceptions like Peru where I'm highly interested in seeing its historical treasures, it's not worth it to me otherwise to go to countries where this is commonplace.

I'll go nearly anywhere given the opportunity. The area in the world that I'm least inclined to travel to is west Africa.

Not so much the place, but the type of vacation. If it involves camping, or driving RV around, or anything that involves heavy hiking / skiing / mountain climbing, then I'll pass. I don't care if it's luxurious camping ground or a really decked up RV or a five star ski lodge in northern Europe, no thanks.

I may get flamed for saying this, but Africa has never appealed to me either. Yeah, I know, it's sad that I dismissed the entire continent. But their food is not that great, I'm not into safari or looking at wild animals, and some countries in Africa are not that safe to visit anyway.

Other than that, if the food is good (according to me, since taste is relative), there are some decent things to see, and the place is relatively safe, I'll go.

Sadly, Mexico, because the drug issues have made at least parts of it into essentially a "failed state". I'd like to visit, but, not gonna do it.

I'm against animal abuse of any sort seen or unseen, that includes US slaughterhouses as well.

No flames, but yeah, nothing to see except stupid animals...

Uh huh me too. I was about to type that when I saw your post. I was actually thinking, I wonder if that makes me a bad person?

I don't do any place that has no running water. This includes but is not limited to showers, toilets and sinks. So that leaves out a large portion of 3rd world countries as well as some areas in the Blue Ridge Mts. and Arkansas. I also have no interest in Asia or South America as a whole. North America is ok. Well the US and Canada anyway. I don't care for places that have Spanish as a primary language except for Spain. Though I think they speak more portugease (sp) there than Spanish. I do like Europe and Australia. Mostly. The outback is a bit sketchy. My idea of roughing it is flying coach, having a taxi driver take a short cut through the hood on the way to the Ritz or shopping someplace that doesn't take Amex.

I left out Africa. Definitely off my list.
