The mayor of a central New Jersey town is barring nonresidents from entering the community via a major highway—but it's just a temporary prohibition. Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty announced the decision in a Twitter post around 3pm today. He says traffic into the town from Route 35 is "shut down immediately" because the Monmouth County community of about 6,000 people has "reached its capacity."
^^agreed. I lived in resort towns for a total of 9 months (all during the summer). The population more than tripled from late June until early August (the July 4th holiday period was even more chaotic) and traffic was worse than Midtown Manhattan on a bad. The towns I lived in and around were and are beautiful, especially during the summer, but that's not something that I want to put up with year after year.
Belmar is beautiful. I have never seen it so crowded! Good for him closing it down.
