Generally speaking, Its not a good idea to pay in advance , (For me to pre-pay for a hotel they have to give me a HUGE discount for me to take the risk).

If your plans change, and you cancel within the cancellation window, then you have to battle to get your money back from them.

Companies are much better taking your money then giving it back.

Anyway, I know that I just want the bill paid. Here in the UK when we buy things we pay them there and then, I hate having things sitting there to be paid.

Things are done different here and even if your room is paid in full a credit is still going to be required and there will be a hold put on a specific amount just in case you decide to use the bar or take the towels.

I know that there is a hold but the hotel bill will still be paid and I would like to get it done. Hopefully I can pay it tomorrow.

Just rang hotel and it is only 6am there. The person on the phone said that they would not recommend sending via email so we have downloaded an app and we will send it via the computer on a fax.

Cost is 79p so no problem.

If you don't want the bill "hanging over your head", why not just pre-pay the credit card?
If you know the bill will be $549.98 US, send that amount to the card company. They will apply it to the account as a credit, and when the bill is final and submitted, the money is already there to pay it. You have created your own pre-paid credit card!

Not true. I booked a hotel at LHR and they charged me when I checked in.
