We did all three. Train from Mpls to Portland, OR, rented car and drove coast to San Francisco, flew back to Mpls. Train was best because of someone else driving and cool scenery from Montana to Portland. Sleeping was terrible in sleeping cars, the suite would be much better, but cost is very high. I prefer flying and renting cars because from Mpls to scenic areas to west it's 8+ hrs so road trip wastes two days leaving and coming back through the worst scenery in the country in my opinion.

I love traveling, and I actually would love to fly except I'm terrified of flying...that doesn't make sense, but it's like this: I like the idea of flying, but I'm petrified of dying while doing it - due to any of the many reasons that could cause one to die while traveling by plane. However, I love to travel across the country and visit places I can't easily get to by car, so that requires flying. I'd go by train, but it's usually really expensive, and takes a lot longer, obviously.

I love car road trips, although I'm also scared of getting in a car crash. I'm mainly afraid of other reckless drivers, because I'm a very safe/cautious driver. It's other people's carelessness/texting/intoxication while driving that scares the sh*t out of me, because who knows when you're going to be the victim of that kind of thing...it's f-ing scary.

Staistically, your chances of survival in the event of a crash, are several times greater if you are seated in the REAR of the air craft!

Not everyone picks their seat based on the extraordinarily low chance that the plane will crash.

Although I used to enjoy flying, it is quickly losing it's appeal. The long waits, cramped seats, and additional fees have me driving farther and more often.

I live in Denmark; have kids in London and the US; and it's at least a 2-day drive to the south of Europe where we vacation. So, we fly and rent a car. Next year, I'll be retired. I recently bought a new, fairly big (for Denmark) car, and plan to drive south next year and then tour the country-side in Italy, Spain or France. We haven't decided. The only down side to driving south is the first day, mainly through northern and central Germany...and on the way back, of course. But I still have to fly from Copenhagen to San Francisco and from there to Salt Lake and back to Copenhagen. I dread these flights.

Mostly by plane. I am going to uni next year, i'll have to take about 20 return flights.

This year i've taken about 10 return flights so a flight to trip every few months. I know that's not a lot to some people but to me it's plenty.

I am not a business person so i've got no need to be flying every week. We don't have a choice here as we're on an island and even then everyone drives everywhere so..

....What a stupid response!.....My statement is simply a proven fact, not a recommendation.
