For me... Home Away. , has proven to be much more affordable and very ez to negotiate lower price for international VRBO. If you are staying long term in one spot.

Air B& B is not cost effective for longterm stays, unless you are a repeat guest with a personal contact, AIR B&B has rules to discourage that type of agreement, and can be damaging to host and guest. They hold their info close, and you get minimal point of contact as well as censoring pre-stay. If Air B&B host is in a popular area, they are not gonna be jeopardizing their relationship with Air b&b boss, or reduce their earning potetential.

My travel (business and personal) is generally about meeting and interacting with locals. Too many years in international business hotels for me.

YMMV, have a great time.

Air B&B hosts I found have usually had a 'Profit' need / motive, so it is more business like, yet without the service / safety / facilities of a hotel. My Air B&B is usually far less of a pleasant experience than using a conventional B&B, which has a reputation and business to protect, and they are actually in the 'hospitality industry'.
My limited AirBNBs(2) were both fine - and more advantageous than a hotel. Sure I would prefer a nice hotel but I can't pay $400/night for my 4 person family to stay in a Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott, etc in the part of town I want.

Not sure of our expectations but it I found it to meet and in one case exceed my expectations.

It varies. I like B&B's, I like Airbnb's. Sometimes I like the anonymity of just being in a hotel.

I have had a couple of airbnb's that really want to chat with me and get to know me. I just wanted a place to stay.

For the most part I like B&B's and airbnb's.
