Part of a restaurant meal that had been left in the microwave. Cleaning staff never even checked it, I guess. I did not discover this until I had already spent the night there.

And that was the SECOND room at that motel I was assigned. When I had gone into the first one, I found that the bed had been left unmade. It was obvious that the last tenant had left and nobody had cleaned anything or changed any linens. This was at about 6 pm!

A used condom lying on the bedspread and what was obviously semen on the bathroom floor in an airport hotel. I got another room and never went back to that hotel.

I am surprised nobody has found what a former coworker found in her hotel room: A girlie magazine between the mattress and foundation, with centerfold stuck together. TWO people have told me they found those.

In Bhairawa, Nepal I stayed in what seemed like an okay hotel room when I did the quick inspection. I agreed to it, went back to reception to pay for the booking, and returned to the room. After standing around for a few minutes and letting my eyes settle, I realized it kind of seemed like the trimming around the carpet and wall was 'moving'. When I walked closer to the trim I realized there were literally probably hundreds of ants or bugs walking back and forth across the entire length of the trimming. I was so disgusted. I opened the bathroom door and saw a bunch of crickets hopping around the tile. I closed the door and went to sleep on the bed without daring to get under the covers. I woke up ten times or more that night because I kept feeling bugs land on my legs or back.

We once found a monster cockroach in the bathroom at a 'historic' hotel. Captured it in a paper cup and took it down to the front desk; the clerk peered into the cup and said "Ooh - we'll barbecue it for dinner!". I included her comment in my online review of the hotel and was contacted a few days by management, who comped our entire weekend.

Back in 2004 we were staying in a rented house in Nags Head, North Carolina. Turned on the TV on a rainy afternoon and the set was picking up LAS VEGAS television stations.

The day manager. After a long day on the road with a toddler, knowing that we wouldn't make our final destination, I checked into a motel. The toddler didn't like the room. There were dead moths under the bed and some little bugs, looked like beetles, in the bathroom. He was hysterical with fear.

I asked for a different room and everything was fine...until I checked out. The manager took offense to my room change. I wouldn't have complained if he hadn't been loud and insulting. I'm not a loud or aggressive person, but found myself shouting, "No, you listen...".

So, bugs.

This fairly nice hotel in Berlin had bathroom walls made of mostly transparent glass:
Hotel Berlin - Park Inn by Radisson Berlin Alexanderplatz Hotel

You could see way too much. I was there with a girlfriend and at first I felt sick. Then we got used to it The rest of the facilities were amazing, breakfast had way too much of really excellent foods. There is a gym and sauna. and it was an equivalent of $100 a day mid week...

I really like Berlin, but I don't want transparent bathroom walls. Nope.

I'm not sure if transparent walls are better or worse than the fully mirror lined bathroom stalls at the Holy Land Experience
