Good post! When I am on vacation, I am usually away from all computers. I do not even take my laptop with me. If I need to check on something like the weather forecast or a museum's open hours, I can usually find one in a hotel. Uploading pictures can wait until I am back home.

Weather away on a visit or at home alone, spending time absorbing the moment is important. You truly miss so much in life when busy with social sites updating. Learning about places and people means to visit with them and enjoy others who will influence your life and the way you think; you’re growing as a person. Take a picture and keep the memory for later.

I'm not sure about Facebook, but I think that a lot of the vacation videos we see on YouTube are taken with little GoPro cameras or perhaps even IPhones and then edited and uploaded later, after people are back home. So it's not as if they're spending their days making videos.

Are you joking?

Most people travel only to boast with this, especially with the photos. If you don't share with somebody your experiences, is like they haven't existed but sometimes people share them with their close persons (friends and relatives),without interest, and sometimes they share them with those whom they want to influence (this is what Facebook is for - influence).

There is nothing wrong with sharing (or boasting in some people's mind).

I share and I don't mind others sharing their experience. It gives me some ideas what other places are like for better or for worse.

"Go out and actually enjoy your vacation" is good advice. So are "Live and let live" and "Mind your own business".

I use my phone for all my trip photos these days, and I like to occasionally post some to Facebook (in large part) because my parents, who live about 2000 miles away from me and who I only get to see in person rarely, enjoy following Ms BATCAT and my travels.

I do it straight from my phone when doing stuff like having my morning coffee or resting my feet back at the room after hours of walking, and it generally takes... say... twenty seconds at most to select and upload a half-dozen photos.

So I'm not really sure where the part where this stops me from "going out and enjoying myself". *shrug*

I post pics, check-ins, status updates, etc on Facebook when I'm on vacation and I still enjoy myself. *shrugs*. I post when sitting in the car/relaxing in the hotel at night/etc. I think it ADDS to my enjoyment.

I have a lot of family and friends who do like/look forward to my travels. I've been told on numerous occasions that they like to follow along virtually on my vacations - it also gives others ideas of great places to go/not-so-great places to go.

I go on a lot of road trips to off-the-beaten path locations and I've had a few people actually go visit some of the places I've posted about because they thought it was interesting.
