I'm flying to Seattle and my mom wants to know if it's possible that she can pay for my hotel room.

Tell your Mom to call the hotel and ask them.

That. Some hotels charge a prepaid room at the time of booking; others not until check out. And most will want you to show a credit card at check-in so incidentals (room service, etc.) or damages can be charged to it. Note that if you use a debit card for that purpose, it's common for the hotel to put a hold of a few hundred dollars on the debit card and release the hold after check out.

You could always use a site like Priceline or Travelocity were you have the opportunity to prepay for a hotel. Just make sure that you don't have to have the card in order to check in, you will probably have to have a card for incidentals for when you check in.

Sometimes you can get a considerable discount for prepayment IF YOU AGREE TO MAKE IT NONREFUNDABLE. Lastminutetravel.com has quite a few deals like that.

Yes she can. You should ask the manager for this provision. You may get considerable discount also. I hope you will have a wonderful stay at Seattle.

I believe that most hotels will allow travelers to prepay for a room but they will still require either a credit/debit card or a large cash deposit at check-in to cover any (extra) incidentals that could occur during the guest's stay.

Sometimes, when I'm traveling, I pre-pay for rooms on Orbitz or Agoda. It depends on the deal I'm getting. But, as others have said, they usually want a deposit when you arrive to cover miscellaneous expenses. That be done with cash or a credit or debit card.

I just don't like the word prepaying at all. It's abused by scammers these days, so I never pay for things I don't get right that moment.
