Hi guys, I'm planning a trip from Cleveland, OH to Tecate Baja California Mexico. I plan to leave in the first week of March.
I have experience traveling by myself, but this is the first time where I will be meeting someone at a destination, rather then have someone pick me up from the Airport.
I know I can take a plane from Cleveland to San Diego Airport. But, I'm not sure what is the best way to get from San Diego Airport to Tecate? Rental Car? Bus?

There are usually cheap tour buses, but if you like your independence, go for the rental car. I prefer having my own car.
The US rental car companies will usually forbid their rental cars to be driven into Mexico - if you understand Mexican driving laws you would understand why.
Dd714 Yea I didn't think about that. The driving laws will be different. Just wasn't too sure if buses would go from SD to Tecate Mexico and back to SD. I couldn't find one so far

It's mostly the liability issue - rental car companies allowing there cars into Mexico may not ever get there cars back, and there won't be a thing they can do legally to get it back. You have to understand that the general travel advice in Mexico when you get into an accident - RUN! Literally leave the scene as quick as you can and get the hell out...because the laws work against you as a foreigner wheather you are at fault or not.
Still - it's not altogether impossible. Most rental car companies will forbid you crossing the borders with the cars, but a few may allow it with special insurance policies that undoubtedly will cost you.

Tecate, BC is a small city along the border. I do not believe that there is any bus service to that town, at least from the US side. I cannot see why a tour bus would head down there. The one time I was there, ir did not seem like there was a tourist attraction in the area.
You should rent a car in San Diego. When you do so, you can purchase Mexican insurance from the rental car agency. You need to provide them with the dates that you will be in Mexico. The insurance is NOT inexpensive and will generally only be valid within 100 miles of the border.
This is done all of the time. I used to rent cars in San Diego, Imperial Valley - El Centro, or Yuma and drive into Mexico to visit clients in Baja California Norte.
From San Diego cross to Tijuana, go to ¨Central Camionera¨ and take a bus to Tecate.
I've done this a number of times, take the bus from the bus terminal in Central Tijuana, and bus it to Tecate. If you follow the arrows to downtown, just before Revolucion you'll see the terminal on the left side of the street.
There's also a bus terminal closer to the border in that shopping center (where most of the stores are vacant) where you can catch a bus to all kinds of destinations. I believe it takes about an hour to get there!
