I wouldn't think the OP would say it "shows fear and lack of intellectual interest" if they were just naturally curious.

I go to the same place for a week on my birthday - Little Dix Bay, BVI.

Why? Because it's awesome.

So what?

Without knowing anything else about your cousin, I'm wondering why you care about his fears and his lack of intellectual interest. There must be more to it than just his choice of vacation spot.

Years ago my wife asked me what I thought her brother would do if he won the lottery. My answer was "buy a bigger TV". The guy has everything he wants, right there in the small town where he's lived for 50 years. Some people just ain't cut out for buying a speed boat and a Ferrari if they win the lottery. And for the record my wife's brother never even goes on vacation, ever.

SMH!
Sure CD would exist. There are plenty of threads about useful things. Check the photography or cooking forums. Useful stuff there! There are actually useful threads in this forum as well.

I have no interest in going even once, but if it's what he wants and he's spending his own money, more power to him.

I don't think it's fair to assume that statement in the poll necessarily reflects the OP's feelings; he/she seems to have chosen it because some of the family members at the Christmas gathering felt that way. We don't know which side the OP was on in that discussion.

(The fact that each option was associated with freighted language did keep me from voting in the poll, though. I would have voted NO, but simply because such vacations don't interest me personally, not because I think it shows something negative about the people who do them. A simple YES or NO option would have been better.)

Maybe he got bilked into a timeshare and feels obligated to get his money's worth.

I have an Aunt and Uncle that only go to Disney World, every year, sometimes twice a year. They plan their days to arrive at certain restaurants at the right times in each park, and eat the same exact meals each time. The only variation in their trip is what hotel they stay at, always on Disney property, and whatever Disney World happened to change between their visits. As nice as Disneyworld is, there are other places to go in this country. I break their chops whenever it comes up because it makes no sense to me. I've been to the same place more than once, but I don't become obsessed with it. There's millions of other places I'd like to see, so I don't understand their mindset. But, I guess it's better than sitting home and looking at the four walls. Some people never go anywhere.

I take the same vacation almost every year in October. I spend a few days in Annapolis at the largest sailboat show in America. Then I move to the Sofitel in DC about a block from the White House and spend a week visiting the museums and monuments. Usually the timing coincides with Taste of DC, so that's another favorite. After so long, I have my favorite restaurants and I know my way around pretty well. It may be boring to others, but I enjoy it.
