For a min. of 14 days I agree one country is best and China is definitely cheaper than Japan. Also during a 14 day trip to China one would really only have time for the most common tourist attractions such Beijing (including the Great Wall & the Forbidden City), Shanghai and Xi'an in order to see the Terra Cotta Warriors.

I don't agree. I'm doing Hong Kong, China and Tokyo in one trip. We will never go back and don't need to see everything in a country to enjoy it.

Depending on your schedule there's a deal on Sing Air for under $700 from IAH to SIN. It's only for travel from Feb to April I believe.

I got in on their $399 fare from IAH to DME last fall, and it was awesome.
