Which city would be the least touristy? I've never been to Playa del Carmen, Puerto Vallarta or anywhere in Puerto Rico. Chances are I will make it (hopefully) to both Mexico and Puerto Rico this year, but am trying to determine which place is best for Memorial Day specifically.

I want to pick the place that will feel the 'least touristy'. I know its a major holiday and many Americans will go to all 3 places for that weekend, however, I just don't want to feel like I'm in Cancun during spring break is all. I'm a single 37 year old female and plan to go with 1-3 girlfriends (but will travel alone if my girlfriends fall through which sometimes happens).

I'm just going to relax on the beach and eat. I might fit in 1 or 2 activities but overall it's a leisure trip. Currently planning for 5 nights (arrive Wed 5/25; depart Mon 5/30).

Thoughts?

So you want to sit on the beach and eat at a safe, self-contained resort and don't want it to be "touristy"?

Go to Puerto Vallarta. It's much less touristy than Playa del Carmen.

You should consider renting a house there. They have a huge selection of reasonably priced houses. We have done it several times.

PV is paradaisical however people should be warned : it's quite expensive, more than Cancun, more on the Cabo lines. People don't be fooled!

That has not been my experience, but it's been two years since I was there.
