Does anyone have experience eating street food in China? The CDC web site says you shouldn't, but I've eaten street food in quite a few places with no problem.

In all likelihood, it's fine. Probably more sanitary than restaurant food. People who say not to eat it are nuts.

Yes, but my wife is from China and she does say some places are dirty but for the most part it should be okay. The most you'll probably get is diarrhea, which I've gotten. I'd say go for it. A lot of the fruits actually seems fresher than in the states and most food is pretty cheap.

Personally I avoided eating street food when I was in China, but several of my colleagues did eat street food and didn't seem to have any major problems with it.

I spent a 24 hour affair of "praying to the porcelain God" in Shanghai last year - but that was as a result of resteraunt food as far as I could tell.
I've had street food before, but it was some like tofu type stuff. Not sure I would trust any meat products (including fish).

I've eaten tacos from a street truck in TIJUANA for heaven's sake. You'll be fine.

You will only know after you've eaten the food. My wife ate some and was hospitalized for 2 weeks with painful stomach problems.

I ate street food in China and was fine. I've also had street food in Turkey and was fine. But I wouldn't eat street food in just any country; when I was in India, I avoided street food like the plague.

It's really just a crap shoot. Just take a look at where you're buying from, and make the call. The food may taste good, but it's the unknown aftermath you'll just have to contend with, if any.

Look for places that have a crowd, where lots of locals are eating. That type of place will have fresh food and will probably have been in business for a long time.
