Yes it is worth it but I would pay the $15 extra and get Global Entry. Even if you only use it 4 times a year, you will get about 20 uses in and that will work out to about $5 a trip to potentially save yourself hours of waiting in lines and the hassle of having to take your shoes off, taking your computer out your bag, or taking off your jacket. And on the off chance you take even one international trip in that time you will breeze through customs and immigration, I have gotten from the plane to the curb at Miami International in 15 minutes and that includes having to wait for my bags. I'm sure that there were still people in line at the normal kiosks when I was walking out.
If you have a travel reward credit card, you may want to check to see if they offer a refund of your Global Entry enrollment fee which I'm sure makes the decision easy

I agree with this, but would add that it also depends on the airports the flyer is most likely to go through. My home airport is RDU, and there's rarely a wait at security. For me, it's not worth the expense since half of my security experiences are through RDU. The other half of the time, I can just deal with a bit of a wait.

Global entry enrollment is good for 5 years, nearly six if your interview is right after your birthday. If they take 4 trips a year they will have the opportunity to use the TSA Pre line for 20 trips in those 5 to 6 years or a total of 40 times (assuming flights from airports that have TSA Pre lines). It would work to about $2.50 or less for them
People pay for this? I get it free. I assume it's because of my frequent flyer membership.
Some get it for free, but it's more case by case and of course by airline. If you don't always fly on the same airline, doing the process for Precheck means you get it all the time on every airline.
As someone who has global entry (which comes with pre check) I would say it is definitely not worth it. Going through the security line almost like its pre 9/11 is terrible.
My global entry has really paid off. I travel internationally a couple times per year and the GE customs return at DFW is super fast. I'd highly recommend it.
Global Entry + TSA Pre-check is worth it no matter how much or little you travel. For $100/5 year ($20/year), it is worth it to get around the security mess at larger airports.
I used mine at JFK a few months ago and i was so glad i had it. The normal security line was extremely long, wrapped around a corner, etc... TSA Pre-check was 8 people long. And the fact that i don't have to take much off, laptop, etc... Worth every penny!
