.........How did we travel so many years ago without the aid of social media and cell phones???? I grew up without a cell phone, drove without a cell phone, went to school and work without a cell phone....I survived. Parents today, who like me grew up without cellphones, swear their children NEED cell phones in order to survive. smh

there's always a risk that your message will be interpreted as a signal to your friends to break in and loot your home.
That could end badly for your "friends".
A friend likes to use FourSquare type apps, but doesn't like people knowing where she is, so uses a "fake GPS" app. Now she still does the "check in"... from home, hours after actually leaving the venue.

we travel a lot and the only people we inform of our travel plans are our children. No mass texts, no sappy post on facebook or staged photo on instagram.....just a simple group text to the kids..."hey, we left and we'll call when we get there". Nothing more, nothing less.
They do the same when traveling, however they do post it on social media as well as a family group text.

You should also be letting your immediate neighbors know so they can watch your home. Best preventative to crime is an active, involved community watch group.
