I don't know what your limit is on size, so I'm going to enclose some "small cities/big towns":

San Francisco
San Diego
Santa Barbara
Fresno
Merced
Palm Springs/Palm Desert,etc.
Redding
Sacramento
Sebastopol (town)
Santa Cruz
Monterey
Seattle
Spokane
Las Vegas
Phoenix (more like passing through)
Tucson
Austin
San Antonio
Corpus Christi (yuck!)
Boise
New Orleans
New York City

I like this approach better. I have missed the following big cities....

San Diego
Phoenix
Charleston, NC
Quebec City
Milwaukee
Atlanta

I think I have hit everything bigger than these, by spending at least one night in the city as a baseline.

I think everyone has missed Charleston, NC.

You probably meant either Charlotte, NC or Charleston SC?

48 states, I don't remember all the cities. Hawaii was not yet a state when I went there.

Well, that would explain why I haven't been there....

I meant SC. Thanks.

I've been to Minneapolis, Atlanta, Detroit, and the outer parts of Chicago. I've driven through a handful of other cities like Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, but I won't count those as actual trips.

Out of those, I've only liked Minneapolis.

It's a long list. I've forgotten most of them. The top 5 for me, where I also lived, were:
Boston
Portland, OR
Boulder, CO
Logan, UT and strangely enough
The Tri-Cities area of Eastern WA, because it was so close to many great outdoors experiences in WA, OR, ID and MT and because the schools were really good.

Wanted to check out Brooklyn and the area North of Central Park (Harlem and the Bronx) but didn't have enough time.
You need to see other parts besides Florida.
Florida, IMO is one of the lesser interesting states in the country. Yes, it has beautiful beaches, but overall it's pretty flat and "meh" away from the beaches.
