It's been years since I've been there but the last time I was in Montreal the outstanding experience was NOT in Montreal but up north in the Laurentians where a lot of Montreal families have summer cabins. If you could rent a cottage in Val David or other town you will get a view of small town life in French Canada that you will miss is otherwise. Have a great trip!

I will second the suggestion of Charlevoix posted on the Canada board, and Ile d'Orléans right next to Quebec City is great as a day trip. You should take the slow road from Quebec City to Montreal too, other threads discuss that.
