ISIS is a Doomsday cult trying to lure the armies of Western Civilization into Syria to bring about their version of the apocalypse. There's scary people out there looking to do bad things to help make that happen. It's natural to be afraid given some recent current events. It's also important to remember that the odds of being killed in a terrorist attack is staggeringly low and these events should not prevent you from living your life and doing what you want to do.
The grim reality is that we are likely to see more events in the not too distant future but said events could literally happen anywhere at anytime. I don't think anyone should refrain from visiting Europe, these United States or anywhere their dreams may take them.
I hope you have a lovely and memorable (only for good things) on your trip abroad.
I went to London several times at the height of the problems with the IRA. Security was tight so I don't think I was in any more danger than if I had stayed home in Pittsburgh.
It would be Wise to avoid Brussels, Paris and London as well as German big cities, Stockholm and the Dutch Randstad in the months to come. But if you like russian roulette, please go ahead, more power to you.
I sure wouldn't let this stop me. I went to Spain a few weeks after 9/11. You can't live your life in constant fear or they win. In reality, you have a much higher chance of dying other ways than a terrorist attack.
My husband and I are supposed to go to Italy in three weeks and the media keeps reporting about attacks being planned all over Europe. Would you still take your trip after what happened today? I've been excited about this for so long, but it's scary to think about what's going on in Europe right now. I know it could happen anywhere, but you have to be cautious. They're warning people to avoid all crowded areas, which I imagine is pretty hard to do when you're touring Rome or Florence.
Would you stop driving if media says there are 250 people killed per day on the roads by auto accidents??

Personally it wouldn't stop me. Wife and I returned from 6 weeks in Spain about a week ago and did not feel uneasy anywhere for our safety. I wouldn't go to Belgium or Paris though.
I would go. As someone else pointed out, it's probably safer now than ever.

I would say your chance of falling victim to a terrorist attack in even these tense times is about as high as your chance of being struck by lightening on a sunny day.
Tens of thousands of Americans travel to Europe every day, you are nothing special. I will probably be going twice for business in the next couple months.
