I know there are plans for this to happen quite soon, but does anyone know when this is actually happening? Where I can just go online and purchase a commercial airline ticket to Havana? Is there a specific date commercial airlines will be offering ticket to Havana? Just as a regular tourist visiting the island and not under the guise of "educational pursuits" or whatever other conditions the US department of state had previously imposed?

If anyone knows, I'd really appreciate it. I'm eager to visit the island! It's such an exciting time.

I'd love an answer to your question as well.

It's not so much about when you can buy a plane ticket on your own, but when all Americans will just be able to enter Cuba on a regular tourist visa. I think that's what you are really asking.

Yes, so why does no one seem to know the answer?

Because nothing has been set up yet. Watch the papers or contact a travel agent to do it for you.

Don't wait for commercial flights. You want to see the country in its raw before external influences kick in. Go private charter.

Yup. It'll be all over the news when this happens. At this time, nobody really knows.

Many airlines have applied for a set number of permits and designated routes. No decision on who has been approved yet. I imagine once that happens, then you'll hear about time frames for the services and routes to begin.

Let's be clear - the travel ban with Cuba has been eased in some limited circumstances but still is very much in effect. The current US administration will end in less than a year and I see nothing changing before then as it has to go through the beuracratic process of law-making. After that, it's anyone's guess.

My preference, if I may, is to lift the ban the exact day that old relic of a failed political system from the previous century, the cult of personality that is Fidel Castro, finally takes his dirt nap. It can't happen too soon, what is he - 90? What a great message that would send to the people of Cuba - ding dong the witch is dead, time to celebrate a new era.
