I think this must be where the phrase, "slip through the cracks" must have come from. LOL

The bedbug statistics on hotels are only as good as their last guest is bedbug free.

It doesn't stop me from traveling but a lot of it is while keeping my fingers crossed. I do keep my luggage closed and off the floor.

They opted not to travel by plane because they always get sick (flu, pneumonia) and end up in the hospital when flying.

I hate to be self-centered, but I'm worried about myself. If they bring home bed bugs, that puts me at risk of getting them. I've heard those things are a real pain in the butt to get rid of and costly too.

Button your lip, or ruin the trip.

I've travelled in many countries, including "3rd world" countries (where poor people tend to have better personal hygiene than we in the U.S. do), as well as throughout the U.S., and the only place I would potentially be concerned about bedbugs are in sleezy hotels here in the U.S. In my life I've only had a couple bad motel experiences (uncleanliness, cockroaches, bugs) and both those were driving cross country here. So, avoid cheap, run-down-looking hotels.

Can't disagree.

Sometimes I wonder why Americans travel so little outside their country - they are scared of the world and fear just about everything.

They don't like hot, so you gotta be a cold buffet for them to chow down on you.

You think its a joke. Until just a few get on you, or find their way in your suitcase and you take them home, even in your car. Then have to get rid of your mattress and other furnishings.

We don't think it's a joke. We just don't think it's as big of a threat as some people are suggesting.
