Summer vacation? Are you aware of the monsoon that runs June through October, depending where?

If you must go in summer, practically the only place spared of rain is the remote region of Ladakh, north of the Himlayas on the Tibetan plateau. It's absolutely gorgeous and unlike anything else in India, and even the world. So that might work out for the better, even.

Forgot about that. Yeah India could be pretty nasty during monsoon season. I forgot I was there in October and not summer

Leh Ladakh is one of the best places in India, perhaps the world. I went there last year (late Jun-Mid July). A bit cold at times, we were there in the wettest season of all time. It rained 6 or 7 days (can't exactly remember) out of the 14-15 we were there for. Very welcoming people and a lovely town/city rich in heritage. Good place for treks as well that range from easy to intermediate (for fit people they are fairly easy).

Ladakh easier said than done..Especially for a foreigner without knowing local language..

I would recommend Western ghats around Karnataka - beautiful beaches, rain forests, mountains, pleasant weather. And hospitable people and relatively safer than other regions.

Monsoon is a factor, but its not going to rain 24 hours.

Just struck me as an oxymoron--
India and summer don't seem to go together at all
