I'm a single dude doing a bit of a road trip around NC - Florida area, and I have a free day that I'd like to spend at a cool interesting city. Looking at the map, the bigger cities that interest me are Charlotte, Myrtle Beach, Savannah, and St Augustine, but I would go anywhere in that general area. Would prefer something with an awesome beach, but somewhere that has good walking/hiking trails and a decent bar scene would be cool too. I'm pretty open minded so any recommendations would be appreciated, thanks!

Charleston has 2 of your 3 wants. Folly Beach around the pier is very popular, and Upper King St. has a really active bar scene. Savannah is very cool, too. Skip Myrtle Beach - very commercial and lots of families.

Charlotte to St Augs? That "general area"? That's a pretty big general area.

You're definitely not going to find a beach in Charlotte. Are you sure you don't mean Charleston?

I think the OP was pretty clear. Unless you only read the title.

Charleston is the only City that's out - I was there last October. I enjoyed it though, I liked the historical buildings like the Old Provost and walking along the bay on that wall, thinking about the battles that occurred there.

I did mean Charlotte NC ... I know there aren't any beaches there, and I would prefer beach but it's not 100% required. I don't really know anything about that City, a chick I was talking to last night told me it was a cool city so I included it on the list.

Charlotte is an okay city if you have a specific reason for going there. It's not really a tourism spot.

Charlotte has a booming micro-brewery biz, lots of club options for the single guy. Some historical significance in the area but Charlotte has long had a penchant for removing buildings that were more than 30-40 years old. The Whitewater Ctr off I-85 South of Charlotte offers numerous opportunities to burn a day.

Ugh. Charlotte is an ugly city with horrible traffic.

Where are you starting from?

Charlotte to Jacksonville, Florida and back isn't a day trip.

Charlotte to Asheville, NC is a day trip but no beaches.

The beaches of South Carolina are closer to Charlotte than the NC beaches.
