The first place I thought of was Bend, OR, when I saw the title of this thread. And there it was, in the first response! What a wonderful place, it has year-round activities of all types, a very nice climate, but prices have gone up a lot in the last 15 years. I think they'll go up more, so it's a safe place to invest.

I also like the western side of the Rockies, many spots in western Colorado.

Also parts of Idaho.

Hamilton, Montana.

And there's still a lot of affordable property in the far-southern mountains of New Mexico, from Silver City to Ruidoso to Cloudcroft.

Show Low, Pinetop area of Arizona. Ski Sunrise has some of the best skiing and more golf courses than you can count. Also fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, off-roading, & just beautiful country. Pull up the Chamber of Commerce.

Eastern AZ, Show Low, Pinetop area. Too many golf courses to count and skiing at Sunrise is a short drive.
