My family is hosting a foreign exchange student from Vietnam this school year. He brought an iPhone 6 from Vietnam, and my boss would like him to get a SIM card for his phone so he can use it in the US. What exactly should I buy? Would this SIM card work (below)?
You should go to a local AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, or Best Buy store and consult with their cell phone specialists.
Explain to them what is needed re features and how long he needs US access. They will suggest choices.
The Ebay item only gets you the SIM. It does not put you on a plan.
The kid nor anyone else needs a plan, just a SIM card that will work with his GSM (likely) phone in the USA. That can easily be found at T-Mobile, other GSM carriers, eBay, etc...
Features are part of his telephone and unless the kid wants something new, then no, he does not need a new phone. People who travel to Europe or all over the world where GSM dominates the market know the drill. I can go into any number of corner shops or whatever in Paris and get a new SIM card for my phone for a few Euros. https://support.t-mobile.com/communi...ices/sim-cards
All phones are not completely identical. The iphone you buy in the US may not be exactly the same as one bought in Vietnam. Once the kid gets here with the phone, go get the chip and make sure it works in the store.
