We will stay home or go to a relative's home depending on my health at that time.

If I were alone on Thanksgiving and wanted to travel, it would be to a nice resort on the coast of Mexico. I wouldn't want to be around where others were with family and friends celebrating together. Mexico would be warm and close enough for easy travel over TG. Jamaica would be another option, especially if traveling from the eastern US or the south.

Weather is great in New Orleans that time of year!

The real difference is that it's amateur hour where the business travelers aren't flying. Every 2nd person has a water bottle in their carry-on bag. Nobody knows how to board a plane, quickly stuff their roll-aboard in the overhead, and get out of the aisle. I'm not flying during that period but with TSA Pre, I'd be insulated from the worst of it. It's mostly that flights run late because all the infrequent flyers screw everything up.
I was actually on a flight last week that had about 30 empty seats (I heard a flight attendant say that number)! Some people had entire rows to themselves. It still happens! That's the beauty of flying during off peak times.

I suggest that you decide quickly and get some dinner reservations made. Otherwise you'll be eating hot dogs out of the 7-11 for Thanksgiving dinner. If they aren't sold out, too.

The industry load factor is 86.6% for last June and 83.66% for the year July 2015-June 2016. There simply isn't much congestion difference between a 100% load factor day like the Tuesday/Wednesday before Thanksgiving and an average Friday/Monday when all the business travelers are flying. 30 empty seats on a 140 passenger 737 is still quite full compared to 30 years ago when all kinds of flights went out nearly empty.

My point is that in terms of dealing with the airport, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving isn't all that different from any Monday or Friday. All the flights are going out full. The main difference is it's infrequent flyers who leave water bottles in their carry-on bag, trip the X-ray scan and need a manual pat-down, and don't have a clue how to quickly board a flight, stuff their bag in the overhead, and get out of the aisle.

Great idea to travel out of the country! I might go to Canada or some island near the East coast.
