An ocean (or other non-spanned body of water). Wouldn't get on one those Greyhound busses with wings for no reason, unless the above holds true. Puke, from the check-in desk on.

I only drove into Nuevo Laredo once. The other times in Mexico I just walk across the bridge and only go a couple blocks in. Nuevo Progreso is great for that. They have a parking lot that is like $2 for all day parking and everything is right there on the main strip right upon crossing the bridge. Piedras Negras is kind of the same way, with a nice plaza right there and a lot of shops just a couple blocks in. For Juarez, I only ventured to Club Kentucky, but it seemed walkable in that area by the PDN bridge.

I'm not sure about the other border towns. One thing I hate is Mexico doesn't recognize American liability insurance so you have to buy a special plan for like $30 a day. That's way too expensive for the little I buy, so I just find places I can easily walk to. There's also the issue of corrupt cops, carjackings\vehicle theft, kid\quicknappings, and the fact if you do get in an accident, what happens (at least for me since I really don't know Spanish). Having a car just adds a lot more complexity to the situation. I don't mind walking a few blocks in, but further than that I'm wary unless I've really done my research and/or have someone who knows the area and knows what is going on.

300 is about the max I'm willing to drive. But I really don't like driving. If I am a passenger and not expected to drive, I'd be fine in car for much longer than that, assuming I have the time available to spend getting from point A to point B. Usually I want to maximize my time at my destination, which means not spending 2 or more days on travel before I get to where I'm going, and then have to spend the same amount of time on the return trip.

I've actually driven over 3000 miles in a single week and I'm not a long haul trucker.
