That was several years ago when I traveled for work a lot...I don't really travel for work anymore so my status is gone. But it was worth it then!

Do you plan to travel more next year? What do you need the status for if you're not using it?

Marriott gave me a "soft landing" with status after I stopped traveling all the time for work. So you won't go from Platinum to nothing over night. They step you down a tier at time. And in my case they extended my platinum status another year without even asking. I stopped traveling towards the end 2012 and still have silver status with them through the end of this year.

But I am not sure they really work anymore as Delta works on combined mileage based on price of ticket and total dollars spent, and all major airlines have adapted this revenue based formula.
I did a mileage run on Thanksgiving from Houston to LA and back to pop over from gold to Platinum. It was worth the $150 I spent on the ticket.

(additionally, since I'm Canadian, thanksgiving is better known as "Thursday" to us. Ours is on Columbus day)
