Thank you for expressing my exact thoughts.

NP...and may I say congrats to you for doing what you like! I'm a woman, and I do solo travel, but I'm still chicken to go out of the USA solo.

You are going to Barcelona? VERY nice!

Thank you! [By the way, you might like the Facebook group Solo Women Travelers. It's full of lots of amazing women who travel the world solo.]

I rented an AirBnB--for the first time--in Barcelona. I'm nervous, but excited!

What's the reason you are OK traveling by yourself domestically but not internationally? Can't tell you how many solo female travelers I've met...everywhere.

Yeah.
I've met so many fascinating women (and men) in hostels, buses, trains, stations, cabs, side of the road etc...

I take solo road trips but I find that I have less discipline once I reach my destination and will dilly-dally the day away. If I have a companion I tend to keep on a schedule.

I do have to chuckle a bit when I read some people here mention apprehension about traveling solo.

Try taking a NINETY mile boat trip, completely DIY on an 18 ft skiff, from Crooked Island to Hogsty Reef, in the very remote Southern Bahamas while knowing its you, and YOU only that is responsible for getting your butt there, and back, safely.

No one else to turn to when it comes to making tactical command decisions with the changing weather, knowing that if you have an engine failure, you WILL be spending the night, truly alone, adrift in the open ocean, while help doesn't arrive until 12 hours or more!

Now THAT is traveling solo. Taking a trip while surrounded by strangers is not traveling solo in my book!

I like to travel solo to new cities and get to know them. My two favorites are London and Washington, DC. I find it so much easier to traipse around a new place when I'm on my own as opposed to having someone with me. I have walked ALL around London, popping in to a pub for lunch or a shop I'm passing by. It's gotten to the point that I often give directions to other tourists. I'm good at striking up conversations with strangers, so I never feel alone, I just feel FREE to do what I want. I think I might be bored going to a resort alone where you just sit on the beach, but I live in L.A., so I pretty much have that whole beach/ocean thing covered at home.

I have done about 2/3 of my traveling alone. Other than boredom on long flights and bus rides, I have never had any problems with it. Most of my friends don't get a lot of time off of work, and don't venture far from home when they do. Anyway, in February I'll be heading to Sri Lanka, alone.

Well, my New Year's cruise was a blast! I'm now addicted. Granted, it was a singles cruise, and 90% of the women I wasn't interested in, but had a connection with one in my top 10%, as well as made some new friends. I now have some potential travel partners, finally. Great experience!
